Drum Set/Workshop: beginners to advanced – 4 weeks
(Minimum of 4 students required)
Instructor: Malcolm Jacobs, teacher/clinician for the Vic Firth Company in Boston.
This course, taught by Malcolm Jacobs, will be an enjoyable interactive group environment introduction to the techniques used to play and understand the drum set, to include:
- The History of the Drum Set
- Introduction to Rhythm and Sight Reading
- The Tension Release Hand Technique Method
- Sticks, brushes, and mallets
- Bass Drum Foot Techniques
Malcolm, an accomplished musician, has taught the drum set and percussion for 30 years. He studied with master teachers Chuck Brown and Joe Morello in San Francisco and has instructed at the University of Colorado in Boulder Colorado and Arapahoe Community College in Denver Colorado.
Malcolm had the pleasure of playing with Jazz singer Diane Reeves, Pianist Billy Childs, Hollywood film composer Mark Isham and The Ellyn Rucker Trio, just to name a few. Currently, as a volunteer, assists percussion students at Craven County Schools.
