The Poetry of Jazz
February 15 @ 7:30 pm
Craven Community College’s Lifetime Learning Center will host Willie E. Atkinson and The Transitional Jazz Quintet as they present “The Poetry of Jazz,” a performance of soulful ballads and up-tempo classics that will surely make the evening one to remember. The concert will take place at Orringer Auditorium on Friday, February 15 at 7:30 p.m.
Atkinson, an extraordinarily smooth jazz vocalist, makes each performance a unique and unforgettable experience with his fluid interpretation of jazz and blues standards. Whether exploring the syncopated rhythms of a swinging tune or telling the story of a lonesome, wanting heart, he offers a fresh approach and seizes every moment to make the songs his own.
The Transitional Jazz Quintet is made up of Stephen Anderson, UNC Chapel Hill, piano; Phil Owens, New Bern, guitar; Doug Trammel, Myrtle Beach, bass; Michael Hanson, Rocky Point, percussion; and Jeff Bair, East Carolina University, saxophone. Liz Pina of Wilmington will be a guest vocalist. The set list includes “Just in Time,” “Stardust,” “In a Sentimental Mood” and “My Funny Valentine.”
Tickets are $20 for adults and $12 for students. To purchase tickets, visit www.CravenCC.edu/LLC or contact Jennifer Baer at 252-633-2618.
