Sweet Bean (International Film Series)
The Lifetime Learning Center at Craven Community College is pleased to present Sweet Bean (Japan, 2016) as part of Explorations: The International Film Series.
Looking for help in his bakery where he specializes in doriyaki pastries, Sentaro hires 76-year-old Tokue. To Sentaro’s surprise, his new employee has a unique talent for making the popular delicacy … but she’s also hiding a troubling secret. A beautiful partnership blossoms between Tokue and a needy teenage girl, Wakana, a regular customer with her own touching story. Sweet Bean is no fairy tale, and unexpected revelations add layers of emotional complexity and metaphorical suggestions. The film is a heartwarming, albeit a bittersweet, experience.
The runtime for Sweet Bean is 113 minutes and this film is not rated.
