Unfolding History: Black History Reflections

Historian Nelson McDaniel will explore African American contributions to Craven County’s history during “Unfolding History: Black History Reflections” on the Havelock campus of Craven Community College. Held in commemoration of Black History Month, McDaniel’s discussion is open to the public and offered at no charge.

McDaniel was born in New Bern and he attended UNC-Chapel Hill, George Washington and Georgetown Universities, New York University and the University of Lyon. For 30 years, he was a teacher at the Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Virginia. McDaniel is very active in the community and has served in various volunteer capacities with the New Bern 300th, New Bern Historical Society, Camps Sea Gull and Seafarer, Christ Church, Tryon Palace Foundation, Carolina East Foundation, Kellenberger Foundation, Craven Arts Council, Coastal Carolina Chamber Music Festival, and Swiss Bear.

This event will be held in the Institute of Aeronautical Technology Hangar, located on the Havelock Campus at 305 Cunningham Blvd and the public is invited to attend. Light refreshments will be served.
