Victoria and Abdul
October 5 @ 2:30 pm - 9:30 pm
The Lifetime Learning Center at Craven Community College is pleased to present “Victoria and Abdul” (UK, 2017) as part of the Explorations: The International Film Series. This biopic drama is rated PG-13.
Explore “Victoria and Abdul” for the extraordinary true story of an unexpected friendship in the later years of Queen Victoria’s (Academy Award® winner Judi Dench) remarkable rule. When Abdul Karim (Ali Fazal), a young clerk, travels from India to participate in the Queen’s Golden Jubilee, he is surprised to find favor with the Queen herself. As the Queen questions the constrictions of her long-held position, the two forge an unlikely and devoted alliance. As Abdul becomes the Queen’s confidante and he gains more influence with her, the Queen’s family and staff become alarmed. This is a delightful and heartwarming story about an unusual relationship between a young man who becomes the teacher and an older, cantankerous woman who becomes the student, all surrounded by palace intrigue, power struggles and jealousy.
This year’s international film selections will be presented on the first Friday of every month from September to November and January to April. Each film has two show times, one a matinee at 2:30 p.m. the other an evening screening at 7:30 p.m. All events take place in Orringer Auditorium on the New Bern Campus. All are welcome. Admission is Free! Donations directly support the film series.
