As honorary co-chairs of the 2016 Campus Campaign, we have learned that the Craven Community College Foundation provides a means to raise money for the benefit of our students, staff and faculty.
It is through all the generous donations from within and outside our college that generate funds for: scholarships, Student Ambassador program, VIP Ambassador program, Student Engagement funds and Faculty Enrichment grants.
Last year, the Foundation awarded over $299,000 to 470 students. Every dollar spent on a student changed their future, one class at a time.
This is how your generosity helped Change a Future! for us:
Hi, I am David Bucksot. Ever since watching Nova, Magic School Bus and other science shows on PBS television, I have been interested in science.
In 2015, I was a local high school graduate who was looking forward to taking the traditional college path at a major university. I applied to top schools in hopes of studying biomedical engineering.
But, that didn’t happen despite my high academic achievement. So, I enrolled at Craven in the fall to begin my engineering studies.
Right away, I was accepted as a Student Ambassador. This scholarship position, funded by the foundation, allowed me to represent the college at events on campus and in the community. It helped me more than financially. It provided me with job skills for the future.
Much has changed for me in one year. My experience at Craven has boosted my self-confidence, developed my leadership skills, and influenced a change in my educational goals. When I graduate this year with honors, I plan to study neuroscience and psychiatry. I want to help others as a doctor.
Simply put, my academic and personal growth would not have been possible without the support of the Foundation.
Hi, I am Josh Crouse. Born in Des Moines, Iowa, I made my way to Eastern North Carolina because of the United States Marine Corps.
I am a husband to Noel, and the father of a five year-old daughter Emma and two year-old son Ethan. I work and go to school full time. I run as a volunteer for Ainsley’s Angels of America–an organization that promotes awareness and inclusion of people with special needs. I’m currently training to compete in the Marine Corps marathon in Washington, D.C. in October–in bright pink running shorts, I should add.
I am also a Dean’s List student.
While I am able to use my GI Bill benefits to pay for college, I needed financial support to supplement the large income loss I experienced when I left the Corps in 2014. I was excited to learn I was awarded the Thurman E Brock Endowment and the Business Office scholarships.
I plan to continue my education at East Carolina University when I graduate with a degree in business administration in Spring 2017. I also plan to pursue my lifelong dream of being a business owner. I also hope to join Craven’s Foundation board as an alumnus to give back.
The Marine Corps taught me to follow my dreams and stay motivated. I greatly appreciate the support that has been given to me as a military veteran.
