I am honored this year to serve as the Community Campaign Chair for the Craven Community College Foundation. Last year, because of generous gifts from individuals and institutions in our community, $212,178 in scholarship assistance was awarded to 373 students. The number of well-deserving students who need our help is great. Our challenge is to meet that need.
Like so many others, I, too, started at a community college. Smaller class size with personal attention provided by smart, talented, caring instructors were exactly what I needed before heading to N.C. State to obtain my degree. I credit my community college experience with setting me on the path to a rewarding career.
As a businessman in New Bern, I have taken a great deal of pride in encouraging dozens of young people to achieve their dreams by furthering their education. Some have chosen two-year training opportunities at Craven Community College so that they can immediately enter the workforce. Others have selected university transfer programs. Without exception, they have all found the tools needed at Craven to achieve their goals.
We live in a loving and caring community. I can think of no finer way to serve our community than to help educate its citizens.
Join me in supporting the efforts of this annual campaign.

the lives of many will be changed forever.”
“Because of you . . .
I have graduated with a degree in cosmetology. I am now in the process of earning a business degree as well. As a grandmother, I am here to say that there is nothing you can’t do when you have your mind made up and people to support you. Thank you for your financial gifts that have helped me attend CravenCC with less worry and more time to focus on my education and my dreams!”
“Because of you . . .
I am a proud alumnus of Craven Community College! While at Craven, I was a Student Ambassador and served on the student government. I became a GM World Class Technician with Trent Cadillac. Now with the knowledge and experience I have obtained throughout my career, I have also become an adjunct instructor in the automotive technology department. The very same place that has taught me so much. Thanks to the financial support I received though the Foundation, I was able to attend school and create a career for myself. Now, I am able to mentor and give back to those coming behind me. Thank you!”
