52 Faces of Community: Chris Suggs

College guest speaker Chris Suggs

By Holly Desrosier

You don’t often hear about teenagers with their own companies. In fact, it usually takes quite a few years of experience in the real world before people dare to venture into that territory. Then there’s Chris Suggs—an intelligent, sensible and kindhearted 18-year-old on a mission to make his mark.

Chris will speak during Craven Community College’s Black History Month Celebration, “Hidden Figures and Community Involvement,” this Friday, February 8 at 6 p.m. on the New Bern Campus. The event will celebrate the achievements of organizations and individuals in the area and the ways they have improved local communities and beyond. As a prime example himself, Chris will discuss his work and the positive impact young people can have on their own communities.

“I think this Black History celebration is so significant because of the rich cultural history we have and are continuing to build here in Eastern North Carolina,” he said. “There are so many that paved the way for us by breaking barriers and leading change. I’m proud to honor the legacies and be a part of continuing to move our region forward.”
