Though schools across the area were closed Monday for the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, students from Craven Community College (CCC) decided to honor the late civil rights leader by lending their time and sweat to a local food distribution center.
Instead of taking the day off, approximately 20 CCC students volunteered their time as part of the annual MLK Day of Service. This year the CCC Student Government Association committed to a day of volunteer work at the Feed Craven distribution center in James City. Students spent the morning and afternoon painting walls and shelving, sanding a food truck, and doing other chores at the local non-profit.
