Craven Community College to create Veterans Memorial Park
New Bern, N.C. – Craven Community College (Craven CC) Foundation is seeking donations to build the Veterans Memorial Park on its Havelock campus. The purpose of the park is to honor and support the military community for their service to our country.
The “Remembering our Past, by Paving our Future” campaign is selling engraved bricks to individuals, businesses and organizations to create the venue and to fund a new endowed scholarship fund that will be exclusively awarded to military veterans or their dependents.
The $300,000 fundraising campaign is a collaboration between the Havelock campus administration, Collegiate Veterans Association and the college’s Foundation.
The Veterans Memorial Park will be located in the center of the Havelock campus, will hold approximately 3,000 bricks, will feature a cement seating arch, and will have flags from all branches of the U.S. military including Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Navy, as well as the Prisoner of War/Missing in Action flag, will be prominently and proudly displayed.
“Anyone can honor any veteran while showing support for our military by buying a brick, and being a part of a special legacy with the memorial and scholarship endowment,” said Wally Calabrese, dean of learning and operations at Craven CC’s Havelock-Cherry Point campus.
“The Foundation is excited that this project will recognize the rich military heritage in this area and support the education of our military members and their families,” said Charles Wethington, executive director of Institutional Advancement and the Foundation.
Sizes and donations for engraved bricks vary and can be purchased by calling Calabrese at 252-444-0739, or via the website at: www.bricksrus.com/order/cravencommunitycollege.
Approximately 20 percent of students receiving financial aid at Craven CC are military-affiliated.
