Craven County (Sun Journal) —Timothy Downs, Craven County’s economic development director, will officially step down from his job next month.
A licensed attorney in both North Carolina and Ohio, Downs said he plans to return to private law practice.
According to County Manager Jack Veit, Downs’ last day on the job will be August 10. Veit said a search has begun for his replacement but no selection has been made.
Downs took over as the county’s economic development director in August 2013. He previously spent five years as Deputy Director of the Office of Economic Development for the City of Dayton, Ohio. Downs was selected from a field of more than 45 candidates in a nationwide search Craven County conducted to fill the position.
The responsibilities of the county’s economic development director include implementing economic development initiatives on a county-wide basis, recruiting new businesses, working to expand existing businesses and developing a sustainable economic development program for Craven County.
