Making sure that the school is prepared and ready to receive our students, staff, and community is one of the jobs of a principal after a major storm event. This event happened to be Hurricane Florence, and as I was walking through our classrooms in the Bender Building, on the campus of Craven Community College, there were many concerns swirling through my head. There were the safety concerns of our students, their families, and our staff members — and to what levels have they been impacted? The concerns of how we will help make the transition back as smooth and supportive as possible for our school family. As a staff, how will we provide that sense of normalcy for our students?
