Chrissy Hurst, controller for Craven Community College (Craven CC), received the Lifesaver Award on April 20, 2018. The Lifesaver Award is given to Craven CC staff and faculty in recognition of a deed above and beyond the normal duties of a job. The Executive Leadership Team (ELT) makes recommendations to the president and then presents each recipient with a jar of lifesavers and a balloon.
“The award came as a surprise,” said Hurst, who coordinated a perfect State Financial Audit in her first attempt since taking the position of Craven CC controller. “I was surprised because I was just doing what I was supported to do.”
Hurst took on her role as Craven CC controller on May 24, 2017.
“She had to learn her new position and maintain her old position of Accountant-Budget and Operations at a very busy time for the college,” said Cindy Patterson, Craven CC executive director of financial services and purchasing. “Her dedication and thoroughness contributed greatly to the college receiving a clean audit from the Office of the State Controller in March. A clean financial statement audit reflects trust and integrity with what is being presented. As a state-funded public entity, it is important that our stakeholders trust that the college is fiscally responsible and a good steward of the funds for which they are entrusted.”
