The Lifetime Learning Center (LLC) of Craven Community College (Craven CC) has scheduled an information session on April 20 at 4 p.m. in the Naumann Community Room located in the Student Center on the college’s New Bern campus.
LLC travelers will be traveling with AAA of the Carolina to enjoy “Spain’s Classics” from October 21-31, 2017. According to travel website TripAdvisor, fall is one of the best times to travel to Spain. The classic cities included in the tour are Madrid, Toledo, Seville, Granada, Valencia and Barcelona. The trip includes five UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) World Heritage sites located in Toledo, Mezquita, Seville, Alhambra, and Barcelona.
“This is our first trip to Spain and we are very excited by this very inclusive itinerary with visits to five UNESCO world heritage sites!” said Jennifer Baer, Director, LLC and community engagement.
Travelers will begin the 11-day tour in the heart of Spain in the country’s capital and largest city Madrid. During this tour of Madrid, all will enjoy an expert-led tour of the 18th century Royal Palace. The tour will then move south to the city of Toledo. Toledo is a UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) site and the capital of medieval Spain until 1560.
Another highlight is coastal Valencia, which claims origins to the famous paella seafood and rice dish. This stop includes a tour of this historic city, included one of Europe’s largest markets. In addition to a boat ride on the canals surrounding rice field plantations, travelers will participate in a paella-making demonstration and lunch.
The trip ends in Barcelona with the final of the five UNESCO World Heritage sites including Antoni Gaudi’s including La Sagrada Familia, Parc Güell, Batllo House and the unconventional Casa Mila building.
The cost for this 11-day adventure is $4,439 (Double occupancy), airfare and travel insurance are included. The single supplement is an additional $600. The registration deadline is May 19. A $530 deposit per person is required to secure the registration.
The international trips are part of a variety of cultural programs offered by LLC. The LCC is an outreach program of the Craven CC Foundation, which is a nonprofit organization that provides scholarships to students and funds other educational initiatives at the college. Net proceeds from annual LCC programs are donated to the Foundation.
Baer said LLC trips, performances, international movies and other programs are unique to Craven CC and participants can enjoy themselves and support the college simultaneously.
