The Lifetime Learning Center (LLC) at Craven Community College (CCC) has added another trip to its annual travel program. Because of an improving economy and increased popularity of trips, LLC is able to offer a summer group travel trip to the Canadian Rockies and Glacier National Park.
Travelers will embark on June 17, 2015 and explore the Canadian Rockies for seven days in Montana, and the provinces of Alberta and British Columbia. Jennifer Baer, director of the Lifetime Learning Center and community outreach, chose the Canadian Rockies trip because it of its landscapes and wildlife. “Traveling to the majestic Rocky Mountains during spring will be very picturesque at this time of year,” said Baer. In addition to the vistas, travelers will learn about early Native American history. Other trip highlights include a visit to emerald-colored Lake Louise, riding on top of Banff’s 1,000-foot thick Athabasca Glacier, and a ride in a 1930’s convertible Red Jammer Touring Car along Glacier National Park’s “Going-to-the-Sun Highway.”
For New Bern resident Pat Polk, the Canadian Rockies trip will be her second trip with LLC. Polk traveled with the LLC to the Grand Canyon last September. “I love the outdoors and enjoy touring with smaller groups, so I am enjoying traveling to these destinations with the LLC,” said Polk. This will be Polk’s first trip to this part of the United States and Canada.
“We are excited to see growing interest in our travel and other programs,” said Baer. Over the past several years, LLC has offered up to eight trips comprised of a few day trips, overnight regional trips and one international trip. This year, the LLC will conduct 10 trips, including two international trips.
Due to recent weather cancellations, the LLC will be holding another trip information session on Wednesday, March 11, at 3:30 p.m. in the Naumann Community Room (#115), Student Center, at the New Bern campus. The cost of the seven-day trip is $2,895 per person (double occupancy). The registration deadline for this trip is April 3.
The mission of the LLC is to offer diverse learning experiences here in Craven County or at other venues in eastern N.C., the United States and abroad. In addition to travel, LLC programs include three series: performing arts, library book discussion, and international movies. As an outreach program of the CCC Foundation, the LLC is able to offer and host events through a donation from corporate sponsors Mr. and Mrs. Terry Tait of Raymond James Financial Services, Inc. Net proceeds from these programs help to support the Foundation. The Foundation is a nonprofit organization that provides scholarships to CCC students and funds other educational initiatives at the college.
