40-Hour Hazardous Waste Operator
Business and industry require skilled professionals who can come to the rescue in actual or potential releases of hazardous materials or hazardous waste. In this course, which meets the requirements of 29 CR 1910.120 (HAZWOPER), you will be required to don and doff personal protective equipment (PPE) including fully encapsulating suits, a combination of respirators and other PPE. Approximately 40% of the class is geared toward hands-on, practical experience.

Excavation Competent Person Training

Mold Inspection and Remediation
Were you affected by Hurricane Florence, or are you working with homeowners or business owners who were affected by Hurricane Florence and having to deal with mold? Do you need knowledge on how to properly inspect for mold or to perform mold remediation? If you answered yes to either of these questions, then Craven Community College has the solution.
Craven Community College, in conjunction with a grant awarded by the American Red Cross, has developed a 32-hour training program on the proper methods for inspection of and the remediation of mold contamination. This training program provides training on the following topics: conducting a mold inspection, commonly found mold species and their potential health affects, mold sampling techniques, containment techniques, moisture concerns, mold data interpretation, and hands-on practicals.
To accommodate the busy schedules of everyone needing this training, Craven CC is offering a day class, evening class, and weekend class. For those individuals who were affected by Hurricane Florence, the registration cost for these classes are covered by the Red Cross Grant.

Motorcycle Safety: Basic Rider Course
Fewer forms of transportation are more exciting or more pleasurable than riding a motorcycle. It’s economical too, but safety for the rider and others is a must. This 20-hour course for beginners teaches the basic skills needed to operate a motorcycle in traffic. You’ll become familiar with the location and operation of the controls as you practice riding on a protected range.
New Precautions Due to COVID-19
- If you are feeling ill, please do NOT come on campus and email the coordinator immediately. Refer to the CDC guidelines if you have any questions regarding symptoms.
- We will be practicing Social Distancing.
- We will not be able to loan any student a helmet. You must come with your own.
- Students will be asked to wear/bring a face covering for use during some training skills that you will not be able to social distance.
Additional Information
- Motorcycles and training manuals are provided.
- You must wear an approved helmet, over-the-ankle footwear, long pants, a long-sleeved shirt or jacket, full-fingered gloves, and protective eye wear at all times while training.
- Successful completion earns you a skills waiver card for the NCDMV.
- The registration fee is NON-REFUNDABLE or TRANSFERABLE.
- Class size is limited and will operate rain or shine.
- There is a mandatory, FREE e-course, provided by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF), that must be completed prior to the first class. The coordinator will contact the student by email with the coupon code and login information.
- A copy of the e-Course Certificate of Completion must be presented to the instructor on the first day of class, prior to class beginning. Craven CC library resources are available for online support and printing if needed.

DOT Wide Load Escort
Do you like driving? Would you like to get paid to do it? The North Carolina Department of Transportation requires that all Oversize-Overweight Load Escort Vehicle drives be certified. Our course can fulfill this requirement. In 8 hours, you will get instruction in safe and effective escort skills, take an exam that documents comprehension of key concepts, and learn about the system of recognizing drivers certified by this or another state. This class meets the requirements for both initial and re-certification. Certification is valid for four years.

Commercial Cleaning
Commercial Cleaning classes are being offered through Craven Community College on a variety of schedules to meet the growing need for qualified industrial/commercial/residential companies in the area. The class is a total of 204 hours and is being offered during the day, evenings, and weekends to best meet the working schedules of our student population interested in starting a career in commercial cleaning.
The course is divided into classroom instruction, followed by hands-on training working with the equipment used in the trade. Topics included are: how to clean a variety of floor surfaces, the proper maintenance of and use of floor machines to include single-disk floor machines, vacuum cleaners, automatic scrubbers, and other powered equipment. The course also covers how to conduct preventive maintenance and routine carpet cleaning and how to care for upholstered furniture.
