Craven Community College offers a wide range of training solutions for Fire Fighter personnel at the request of Fire Department and Fire agencies. The in-service training courses are provided at no cost to Fire personnel affiliated with a North Carolina agency. Craven Community College is pleased to collaborate with local Fire Departments to make our communities safer and protect property.
We offer North Carolina State Certification programs in the following areas Fire fighter, Technical Rescuer, Driver Operator, Fire & Rescue Instructor, Hazardous Materials, Fire Officer and Fire Life Safety Educator. Courses
Twin Rivers Fire Academy
Craven Community College in partnership with New Bern Fire Rescue and the Craven County Firefighters Association would like to announce Twin Rivers Fire Academy. This academy is a 14-week program open to any member of a North Carolina Fire Department. When completed, recruits will have obtained the following certifications, which are governed by the North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal:
- North Carolina Certification in Firefighter
- Hazardous Material Level 1
- Traffic Incident Management Systems
Admission Requirements
Recruits must be affiliated with either a volunteer or paid fire department. A letter of recommendation from the chief is required at the time of application. If the affiliated fire department withdraws its support the recruit will be dismissed from the academy. This academy also has physical training each day. Recruits must pass both the academic and physical fitness requirements in order to graduate.
All recruits will be required to have an interview the the Fire/Rescue Training Coordinator before being accepted into the academy. Along with the completed application, the recruit will need to return the complete medical examination form (exam must be within 6 months prior), OSHA Respirator Medical Evaluation Questionnaire and a current drug screen test. This has to be on file prior to admission into the academy.
Recruits will be accepted on a first-come basis until all seats are filled. The application deadline is December 15, 2018.
PPE Requirements
NFPA approved turnout coat, pants, helmet, hood, boots and gloves. A NFPA self-contained breathing apparatus is also required and should be furnished by your fire department.
