Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) – Certificate

Gainful Employment

Program Description

The certificate level program in Basic Law Enforcement Training is designed to give students essential skills required for entry-level employment as law enforcement officers. The program utilizes state commission mandated topics and methods of instruction. General subjects include, but are not limited to, criminal, juvenile, civil, traffic, and alcoholic beverage laws; investigative, patrol, custody, and court procedures; emergency responses; and ethics and community relations.

The 19 semester hour credits (SHC) program is available through day and night academies. The day academy takes one semester for students to complete, and the night academy takes a few weeks more. Both academies involve Saturday and evening classes. All schedules are subject to change.

Maintain order, enforce laws and ordinances, and protect life and property in an assigned patrol district. Perform combination of following duties: patrol a specific area on foot or in a vehicle; direct traffic; issue traffic summonses; investigate accidents; apprehend and arrest suspects, or serve legal processes of courts.
