Getting Started
Craven Community College provides a wide range of services and resources to help you apply, get financial aid, and succeed as a college student.
1) Determine Residency
Complete your Residency Determination Application.
2) Apply to Craven CC
Submit your application for admission to the college – view How to Create Your CFNC Account (video). Email our Admissions department with any questions.
3) Seek Financial Aid
Apply for financial aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
This can be a 6-8 week process, so do this immediately!
4) Request Transcripts
Submit official copies of your transcripts from all that apply:
- High School/Homeschool/GED Equivalent
- College
- Military

5) Schedule and Take Placement Tests
If needed, schedule and take a placement test. To schedule your test or to find out if it can be waived, please contact the Admissions Office at 252-638-7430 or email Admissions.
6) Meet with an Advisor
Visit with an advisor to discuss goals and register for classes. You can schedule a virtual appointment or visit Student Services at the New Bern or Havelock campuses. Email our Advising department for more information.
7) Register for Orientation
Register and attend New Student Orientation. All new students must attend an orientation session online or in person in order to register for courses for their first semester or term.
Paying for College
1) Complete the FAFSA
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). If you're a dependent, you and your parent will need a Federal Student ID and password to sign your FAFSA online.
2) Apply for Scholarships
Complete a scholarship application (available January through April each year) for the following fall semester.
3) Turn it in
Submit all required documentation for admissions.
4) Log In
Check your student email account for directions about FAFSA next steps.
5) Meet with Us
Schedule a financial aid appointment if additional information is requested.
Starting Classes
1) Self-Service
Log in to the Self-Service portal to access class schedules, class registration, financial information, and more. Click "Forgot your username?" if you need assistance, and be sure to reset your password.
2) Moodle
Log in to your Moodle account to access your online and hybrid classes. Your login information is the same as Self-Service.
3) Student Email
Log in to your Microsoft Office 365 Outlook student email account. Your login information is the same as Self-Service.
4) Panther ID Card
Bring your class schedule and a government-issued picture ID to Student Services to obtain your Panther ID card.
5) Student Help Desk
If you require additional assistance, contact the Student Help Desk to request in-person or virtual support.
