Kate Amerson, history/humanities faculty and Phi Theta Kappa advisor for Craven CC, received the Lifesaver Award on October 30, 2018 for the outstanding leadership she provided to a student/faculty-led act of kindness. Under the leadership of Mrs. Amerson, as well as fellow PTK advisor Mr. Ed Sabat, faculty, staff, students, and other organizations across campus, the Alpha Phi Nu chapter of Phi Theta Kappa were able to create a food and supply pantry to assist those who were affected by Hurricane Florence. Mrs. Amerson continues to be a Lifesaver, as the pantry is still up and running, providing much needed supplies to those still suffering from the devastation of the hurricane.
The Lifesaver Award is given to Craven CC staff and faculty in recognition of a deed above and beyond the normal duties of a job. The Executive Leadership Team (ELT) makes recommendations to the president and then presents each recipient with a jar of LifeSavers candy.
