Patricia Moore, an officer in the Craven CC Security Department, received a Lifesaver award for her tireless efforts during the Craven County Blackout, which left many parts of New Bern without power for several hours. Due to the lack of power, the keyless entry system on the Havelock Campus failed, so the doors would not properly secure. Officer Moore spent countless hours patrolling the Havelock Campus throughout the night in order to deter any criminal activity that might have taken place during the outage, and she returned ready to work early the next morning. Her efforts alone saved the Craven CC Aeronautical Program millions of dollars by ensuring that the Havelock Campus did not fall prey to theft. Despite only being employed at the college since August 2018, she went above and beyond to ensure the Havelock Campus remain secure.
“She has proven herself to be an exceptional officer,” said Jackie Thomas, Craven CC coordinator of security services. “She is a true professional and a pleasure to have on our team.”
The Lifesaver Award is given to Craven CC staff and faculty in recognition of a deed that goes above and beyond the normal duties of a job. The Executive Leadership Team (ELT) makes recommendations to the president and then presents each recipient with a jar of lifesavers and a balloon.
