The Practical Nursing curriculum prepares individuals with the knowledge and skill to provide nursing care to children and adults. Students will participate in assessment, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care. Graduates are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN), which is required for practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Employment opportunities include hospitals, rehabilitation/long term care/home health facilities, clinics and physicians’ offices.
The Practical Nursing program begins in the fall.

Application Requirements for Fall 2021 must be met by December 19, 2020
To qualify, an applicant must:
- Possess a current unrestricted listing on the NC Registry as a Certified Nurse Aide I or above
- Must complete all development requirements to be eligible to take ENG 111
- Must complete all development requirements to be eligible to take BIO 163
- Must complete all development requirements to be eligible to take MAT 110
- Must complete a Chemistry course at high school or collegiate level with a C or better
- Have a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA (not rounded). Craven CC GPA will be used if an applicant has completed 12 or more semester hours at Craven CC.
- Be a graduate of an accredited/registered high school or a recognized equivalency, such as a GED diploma. Official transcripts must be on file at Craven CC.
Practical Nursing Application Information – Fall 2021
Application Steps:
- Complete a general admission application to Craven Community College.
- You will receive a letter from the Admissions Department with your Craven Community College Student ID number and instructions for accessing your Craven Community College student email, and accessing WebAdvisor, Craven’s student web portal.
- Follow the instructions that you receive in a return email from Admissions to confirm your intent to enroll.
- Complete the online Practical Nursing application. The application will be available from October 1 – December 19, 2020.
- Applicants are required to the TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills) Test, published by ATI Tesing, one time during the application period, October 1 – December 19, 2020. It is the applicant’s responsibility to register, pay, and take the TEAS Test.
- The TEAS Test can only be taken one time during the application period

- Science 40%
- English 40%
