Cherry Point Campus Testing Center

Craven Community College operates the National Testing Center (NTC) aboard Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS), Cherry Point. The NTC offers convenient and cost effective testing services to military personnel, family members, students, and civilians associated with the base. We provide online testing, in most cases the test results are received immediately, and scores are sent to the school of their choice free of charge.

The NTC offers College Level Examination Program (CLEP) testing, DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSST), Pearson Vue professional certification exams, and Placement Testing. You must have access to Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point to be able to utilize this testing center.

There is essential information available below regarding each test, including testing requirements, fees, restrictions and more.

+ CLEP Testing

CLEP exams are offered to allow colleges and universities to award credit and/or to exempt a student from general education requirements in a variety of subjects. There are 34 tests that measure college level achievement in English Composition, Humanities, Mathematics, Natural Science, Social Sciences and History. Colleges may award 3 to 12 semester hours of college credit for successful completion.

To register for an exam

  • Register online through College Board

To schedule your appointment

  • Complete the test registration form for MCAS Cherry Point NTC
    • This form must be turned in prior to the testing day
  • Visit T&E Building Room 120 or Call (252)444-6000 to schedule your appointment

Test Fee

  • CLEP exams are free for the first attempt to active duty and active reserve members
  • For all other personnel, the cost for a CLEP exam is currently $114.00
    • $89.00 is paid when registering for the exam and an additional $25.00 sitting fee is required to be paid to Craven Community College
    • Please make payment prior to your test day at the Havelock Campus Business office, located in the Redd Bldg., room 104

What to bring on test day

  • Two (2) acceptable forms of ID are required in order to take an exam
  • Your CLEP ticket number (testing voucher)

Other information

  • You must have access to Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point to be able to utilize this testing center
  • Exam time varies depending on exam selection, however most exams are 90 minutes
  • Purchased CLEP vouchers will expire 6 months after the purchase date
  • There is a 3 month waiting period for students who wish to retake an exam
  • Study materials on CD/DVD are available for CLEP exams in the T&E Building, room 120

+ DSST Testing

DSST standardized exams are offered to allow colleges and universities to award credit and/or to exempt a student from general education requirements in a variety of subjects. The DSST covers both college level subject matter and vocational/technical matter. Tests are available in 37 subject areas. Colleges may award you up to 3 semester hours of college credit for each test successfully passed.

To register for an exam

  • Complete the test registration form for MCAS Cherry Point NTC
    • This form must be turned in prior to the testing day
  • Visit T&E Building Room 120 or Call (252)444-6000 to schedule your appointment

Test Fee

  • • DSST exams are free for the first attempt to active duty and active reserve members

What to bring on test day

  • Two (2) acceptable forms of ID are required in order to take an exam
    • 1 must be an original, valid (unexpired), government issued photo & signature bearing identification
  • DSST account username and password (if previously taken a DSST exam)

Other information

  • You must have access to Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point to be able to utilize this testing center
  • All exams are 2 hours long and most exams are 100 multiple choice questions
  • Special scheduling will be required for DSST Public Speaking, please contact Craven Community College staff at T&E Building Room 120 for more information
  • Study materials on CD/DVD are available for DSST exams in the T&E Building, room 120

+ Pearson VUE Testing

Pearson VUE offers a wide range of industry recognized certification exams for professional careers ranging from introductory levels to experts. Active duty, contractors, transitioning service members, and their families can schedule exams at the on-base Pearson VUE authorized test center.

To register for an exam

  • Two (2) acceptable forms of ID are required in order to take an exam

  • You must have access to Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point to be able to utilize this testing center

+ Placement Testing

Please note each student’s academic profile is unique. Therefore, students must consult with an Academic Advisor prior to testing to ensure that the test the student is planning to take is the right one.

RISE Placement Testing

  • Placement testing will consist of two separate sessions(English and Math)
  • RISE English consists of two testing tiers and takes approximately two hours to complete
  • RISE Math consists of three testing tiers and takes approximately two to three hours to complete
  • You must make a 70 on a tier before you can move to the next tier
  • You can retest each tier ONLY one time – you must speak to an advisor before you can retest

What to bring on test day

  • You will be required to present a valid photo ID

Other Information

The center conducts remote proctoring of the RISE and Accuplacer placement test for students enrolling at other institutions. We charge a $5 test-proctoring fee. We also arrange remote proctoring of the RISE test for prospective Craven Community College students at other colleges who want to enroll at our college.
