General Definition of Work
Essential Functions/Typical Tasks
Inspecting, maintaining, and repairing sewer pumping stations.
(The following tasks are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.)
- Inspects sewer pumping stations and related equipment for proper operations.
- Maintains pumps, valves, blowers, filters, screens, emergency motors, generators, and other equipment.
- Reads various meters and gauges.
- Adjusts, repairs, and replaces malfunctioning parts such as bearings, gauges, seats, and packing.
- Makes repairs to float and air type pump controls.
- Replaces fuses; does minor electrical repair work.
- Lubricates pumps and motors.
- Performs minor electrical repairs on pumping equipment.
- Maintains and repairs vacuum sewer stations.
- Removes malfunctioning pumps and installs new pumps.
- Degreases wet wells.
- Maintains and repairs motors, pumps, and electrical controls on low pressure liquid collection system.
- Performs related tasks as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of the repair and maintenance of the mechanical, hydraulic and electrical components of pump stations; thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions of the work; skill in the use and care of tools of the trade; ability to determine improper operation of pumping equipment and take proper remedial action; ability to follow oral and written directions; ability to work in difficult work stations for extended periods; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
Requirements
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and considerable experience in the repair and maintenance of pumping station equipment.
Special Requirements
Possession of an appropriate commercial driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina. Possession of Grade-I Wastewater Collection certification issued by the State of North Carolina.
