Chris Richards studied classical ballet with The Joffrey Ballet School in New York City. After 5 years of living in New-York, Richards attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she earned a degree in chemistry. She later earned her medical degree from East Carolina University School of Medicine, and was in private practice as an obstetrician/ gynecologist for 14 years. A surgical injury to her right hand ended her career as a physician. Richards went back to school to pursue a fine arts degree which allowed her to re-energize and develop a passion for painting and sculpture. Each concentration contributed to her artwork, and her experiences in medicine and classical ballet gave her familiarity with, and reverence for, the female form.
