In March 2015, Economic Modeling Specialists International released results of the impact that higher education institutions have on North Carolina’s economy. The study included collective and independent analysis of the University of North Carolina System, North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS), and North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities. The study also looked at each of the 58 community colleges in the NCCCS.
North Carolina’s community colleges are internationally acclaimed for their role in supporting economic development and the competitiveness of Tar Heel businesses and industries. Recognized by the Wall Street Journal, the Chronicle of Higher Education, and the Associated Press for its free, customized training programs, North Carolina has a proven track record as a great place to do business.
The North Carolina Community College System, established in 1958, began a visionary program that continues to be recognized as the nation’s most sophisticated job-training service. Craven Community College and its customized training programs continue this tradition by supporting economic and workforce development and by collaborating with organizations that foster business vitality and job growth.
One of our closest partners are the Craven County Economic Development Commission and its support organization, the Committee of 100. These organizations champion efforts that broadly support economic development throughout the county.
Craven County is fortunate to have two very strong chambers, the New Bern Area Chamber of Commerce and the Havelock Chamber of Commerce. Representatives of the college serve on both boards of directors and are actively involved in all Chamber events. The programs sponsored by these organizations not only make Craven County a healthy place to do business, but also foster leadership development, educational support, professional networking, and a host of other activities that sustain Craven County’s unique quality of life.
With emphases on community engagement and economic development, Craven Community College actively collaborates with a variety of other organizations working to achieve broad-based economic development. These organizations include Swiss Bear and Uptown Business and Professional Association.
