Public Radio East (PRE) is a nonprofit, non-commercial broadcast service licensed by the Federal Communications Commission to the Craven Community College Board of Trustees. PRE operates out of Barker Hall on our New Bern campus, making them one of only six 100,000-watt public radio stations licensed to a community college.

The station was initiated by New Bern native Dr. Charles Barker, who became a charter member of the Board of Trustees of Craven CC (then still known as Craven Industrial Education Center) in 1965. PRE’s WTEB-89.3 FM officially went on air on June 4, 1984. Today, they broadcast 24 hours a day on five frequencies and average 50,000 weekly listeners. Learn more about Public Radio East.

Through a collaboration with PRE, we now offer a Communications Equipment Repair certification program as part of our Electronics Engineering program.
