English as a Second Language (ESL)

Our English as a Second Language (ESL) program provides non-native English speakers with instruction in speaking, reading, and writing the English language to help with proficiency in community, social, business, and employment or educational settings. If you’re interested in attending ESL classes, call 252-638-7265 for registration information.

This program is free, and online classes are available. It is offered through our College & Career Readiness department. Please note: This is not a college credit class.

Esta clase provee a estudiantes de no habla ingles con instruccion en el hablar, lectura, y escritura en ingles para que sean competentes en sus interacciones con la comunidad, en contextos de negocios, en su empleo, en interelaciones sociales, o para avanzar su educacion.  Estudiantes interesados en las clases de ingles deben llamar a 252-638-7265 para mas informacion y registracion.

Citizenship Exam Prep

Classes are available for English language learners to better prepare for the citizenship exam (written and oral).

Eligibility

To be eligible for ESL, you must: 

  • be 16 years or older
  • be officially withdrawn from your last K-12 public, private, or home school (if you are under the age of 18)
  • not be in the U.S. on an F-1 or J-1 visa 

If you are an international student with an F-1 visa or in the U.S. as an “au pair” with a J-1 visa, you are not eligible to take Adult ESL with College & Career Readiness.
