Craven Community College (Craven CC) is currently registering new and returning students for B-Term through Oct. 18. Classes for the shortened eight-week semester begin Oct. 19.
B-Term classes offer the same amount of credits and coursework as traditional 12-week semesters but in a condensed schedule. It’s a great opportunity for students trying to balance school on top of career and family obligations, and it’s a great chance for recent high school graduates to start on the college track.
“B-term offers a flexible option for students who have jobs or family circumstances that prevent them from taking a full course load, especially during this time,” said Zomar Peter, dean of Student Services. “It’s also perfect for students who are interested in quickly completing courses in a convenient format. It is never too late to register at Craven Community College.”
The college has adopted several safety protocols in an effort to promote a safe, healthy learning environment, including social distancing, frequent cleaning of high-traffic areas and requiring face coverings when maintaining a distance of six feet from others isn’t feasible. Many classes are being held on Craven CC campuses, but there are also many online programs and classes for those who aren’t yet ready for or comfortable with in-person instruction.
Craven CC has a variety of options for students interested in career and technical degree programs, many of which are also offered as certificates and diplomas. Such classes being offered during B-Term include Principles of Microeconomics, Introduction to Early Childhood Education and Personal Health and Wellness (online). In addition, the college’s Volt Center campus offers various skilled trades programs for those interested in entering the workforce.
Many options are also available for students seeking more traditional degrees such as the Associate in Arts (AA) and Associate in Science (AS), as well as many transfer opportunities to four-year institutions through partnerships with ECU, NC State, NC Wesleyan, UNC-Chapel Hill and more.
“There are many online courses running in the B-Term which will allow new students to begin an Associate in Arts or Associate in Science program of study,” said Dr. Betty Hatcher, dean of Liberal Arts and University Transfer. “Likewise, there are many great options for returning students who are working toward the AA, AS or any of the college transfer degrees. These include English, social science and humanities courses.”
Academic, admissions and financial aid advisors are always on hand to personally assist students with navigating the application and financial aid processes. They are available to show students how to apply for financial aid and scholarships, answer questions and assist students who may not know which academic path to follow. Students and parents also have the option of setting up virtual meetings with those departments for any questions they may have. Students can register at the New Bern or Havelock campus Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Current students can go online and use WebAdvisor to view the current class listing and register quickly and easily.
