Physical surveillance is one of the most essential resources available to investigators and officers for detecting criminal activities and building a case against the suspected offenders. As such, it is important to build the skills necessary for observing criminal suspects while remaining undetected.

This five-day course is designed for law enforcement officers involved in the tracking and monitoring of suspects through urban, suburban, or rural conditions for the purpose of documenting activities and potentially interdicting upon these actions.

This training will provide narcotics and criminal investigators the knowledge of proper planning methods and techniques for conducting a successful foot, vehicle and stationary surveillance operation in an urban setting. Participants will receive instruction on: Operational Planning, Concealment Techniques, Prior Intelligence of Target Assessment, Safety Issues, Infiltration and Exfiltration Techniques, Equipment Needs, Personnel and Surveillance Strategies. This is a hands-on training exercise conducted under arduous conditions.

Participants should possess a working knowledge of video equipment and be prepared to use it during training.

This course is 90% field work. You will need a covert or unmarked vehicle and one video camera for every three people. Please do not plan to use marked vehicles in this class.

Course fee is waived for sworn/affiliated NC Law Enforcement Officers.
