Basic Digital Photography

Course Code: CSP-DPHOTO

Are you interested in capturing beautiful moments and creating lasting memories through digital photography? If so, our Basic Digital Photography class is a great start! You will get an overview of the basics of photography, elements of composition, focusing, proper exposure, introduction to digital cameras, and terminology related to digital photography. There will also be an introduction to Photoshop and a print competition at the end of the class. Students should bring their own camera to class.

Please Note: This class cannot be used for credit toward any of our degree programs.

About the Instructor

Tom McCabe is an award-winning photographer and is the owner of Coastal Light Photographic Arts. He is also the former co-owner and operator of First Flight Photography of Havelock, NC. He has been a member of Professional Photographers of North Carolina (PPNC) and Professional Photographers of America (PPA) since 2004 and has actively participated in many PPofNC and PPA events. Tom received his certification as a professional photographer (CPP) from PPA in September 2013 and his Master of Photography degree in February 2015 and was accepted into the American Society of Photographers. He received his Photographic Craftsman degree from PPA in January 2022. In 2012, he received the Kodak Gallery Award and was awarded first place in Women's Portraiture in 2012, first place in Scenic/Fine Art in 2016, and first place in Commercial in 2017 at the PPofNC Print Competition in those respective years. In 2017, Tom was awarded the PPA National Award for service to the photographic industry. He is the past president of PPNC and is currently the Chairman of the Board. He is also the past president of the Professional Imaging Group of Eastern North Carolina, a local PPA affiliate, and is the past president of the Coastal Photo Club in New Bern.

About the Community Enrichment Program

The Community Enrichment Program (CEP) at Craven Community College provides a diverse array of non-credit, short-term, and affordable courses. Classes are open to anyone who wants to keep learning while having fun! Topics offered are based on community input and range in skill levels from beginner to advanced. Classes can take place in one session or span several weeks. Please note: CEP classes cannot be used for credit toward any of our degree programs.

Students may receive a full refund if a CEP class is canceled by Craven CC prior to the start date, or the student withdraws from the class before the start date. Complete details about CEP refunds are available in the Workforce Development section of the academic catalog.
