Introduction to Pencil Art

Course Code: CSP-DRAW1

This class is open to everyone, whether you think you can draw or not! We all have the potential to make extraordinary works of art. You will be provided an outline of a dog, cat, person, etc., and learn how to use pencils to make it come to life, using different layering and blending techniques. Continue to make your own masterpieces at home with the tips, tricks, and techniques you will learn in this class. You will learn:

  • How to create fur, skin, etc. 
  • How to use erasure to create depth and realism
  • The importance of layering and blending
  • Effects of smooth vs. textured paper 

Please bring the following supplies to class: 

  • Faber Castell 9000 Graphite pencils (12-piece set)
  • Kneaded eraser and pencil sharpener
  • Sketch pad or drawing paper

About the Community Enrichment Program

The Community Enrichment Program (CEP) at Craven Community College provides a diverse array of non-credit, short-term, and affordable courses. Classes are open to anyone who wants to keep learning while having fun! Topics offered are based on community input and range in skill levels from beginner to advanced. Classes can take place in one session or span several weeks. Please note: CEP classes cannot be used for credit toward any of our degree programs.

Students may receive a full refund if a CEP class is canceled by Craven CC prior to the start date, or the student withdraws from the class before the start date. Complete details about CEP refunds are available in the Workforce Development section of the academic catalog.
