Grant Writing for Nonprofits

Course Code: CSP-GRANTWT

Our Grant Writing for Nonprofits course will teach you the basics and get you on your way to writing effective grants! You will learn how to:

  • Identify types of grants and terminology for their development and use in practical application to write a grant proposal
  • Learn about and access governmental and other websites that are part of grant research and examine data for proposal development
  • Practice organizational readiness working with a grant team to develop a grant for an identified need and create goals, S.M.A.R.T. objectives, and quantifiable outcomes
  • Develop a grant proposal or continue to work on an existing concept that can be elaborated upon to meet a community need
  • Assemble the grant proposal in anticipation of submitting it to a specific funder
  • Nurture and maintain relationships with funders to expand fundraising opportunities

About the Instructor

Years ago, Mrs. Mary Lippitt created a business to respond to a nine-county need for grant funds. At that time, she was a community college English instructor. Over the past two decades, Mrs. Lippitt has written innumerable grants and taught thousands of students (from community college-level to those in graduate residencies). She loves teaching as much as developing grants for those who need funds for projects and programs. She has taught writing and tutored at Craven Community College for the past several years.

Please note: This class will be held Saturday, Nov. 4 and Saturday, Nov. 18. The college will be closed Nov. 11 for Veterans Day.

About the Community Enrichment Program

The Community Enrichment Program (CEP) at Craven Community College provides a diverse array of non-credit, short-term, and affordable courses. Classes are open to anyone who wants to keep learning while having fun! Topics offered are based on community input and range in skill levels from beginner to advanced. Classes can take place in one session or span several weeks. Please note: CEP classes cannot be used for credit toward any of our degree programs.

Students may receive a full refund if a CEP class is canceled by Craven CC prior to the start date, or the student withdraws from the class before the start date. Complete details about CEP refunds are available in the Workforce Development section of the academic catalog.
