Do you have a financial plan to guide your family and you throughout your lifetime? Are you comfortable managing your debt and making the right investment decisions? Are you saving enough for retirement?

This course will teach you how to make sound financial decisions, save more, and eliminate debt. You'll learn the basics of budgeting, investing, and retirement planning, as well as the best way to finance the purchase of a home. In addition, you will learn risk management and insurance that you need and don't need to ensure a secure financial future.

About the Instructor

Paul Platek has a bachelor's degree in economics from Queens College and an MBA in finance from St. John's University. He obtained his Certified Financial Planner designation in 1996. Paul has more than 40 years of experience working in financial services, including banking, lending, college, retirement, insurance, and estate planning. He is very passionate about assisting others in achieving their financial goals and has provided personalized financial planning for hundreds of people.

About the Community Enrichment Program

The Community Enrichment Program (CEP) at Craven Community College provides a diverse array of non-credit, short-term, and affordable courses. Classes are open to anyone who wants to keep learning while having fun! Topics offered are based on community input and range in skill levels from beginner to advanced. Classes can take place in one session or span several weeks. Please note: CEP classes cannot be used for credit toward any of our degree programs.

Students may receive a full refund if a CEP class is canceled by Craven CC prior to the start date, or the student withdraws from the class before the start date. Complete details about CEP refunds are available in the Workforce Development section of the academic catalog.
