Mastering Your Retirement Years

Are you ready for retirement, both financially and emotionally? Are you prepared to replace your paycheck? Or if already retired, are you comfortable that you won't outlive your money? Do you have the right insurance and all of the necessary estate planning documents, such as wills, powers of attorney, and medical directives?

This course will teach you how to stretch your income and investments to ensure a comfortable retirement. It will also teach you the ABCDs of Medicare to make sure you have the best medical coverage. Additionally, you will learn how to protect your loved ones should there be a long-term care need. Finally, you will learn the numerous nuances of social security and how to have a sound estate plan.

About the Instructor

Paul Platek has a bachelor's degree in economics from Queens College and an MBA in finance from St. John's University. He obtained his Certified Financial Planner designation in 1996. Paul has more than 40 years of experience working in financial services, including banking, lending, college, retirement, insurance, and estate planning. He is very passionate about assisting others in achieving their financial goals and has provided personalized financial planning for hundreds of people.

About the Community Enrichment Program

The Community Enrichment Program (CEP) at Craven Community College provides a diverse array of non-credit, short-term, and affordable courses. Classes are open to anyone who wants to keep learning while having fun! Topics offered are based on community input and range in skill levels from beginner to advanced. Classes can take place in one session or span several weeks. Please note: CEP classes cannot be used for credit toward any of our degree programs.

Students may receive a full refund if a CEP class is canceled by Craven CC prior to the start date, or the student withdraws from the class before the start date. Complete details about CEP refunds are available in the Workforce Development section of the academic catalog.
