This class will expand on the basics of American Sign Language (ASL). You will increase your vocabulary, including finger spelling skills and numbers and phrases, and will gain a deeper understanding of useful expressions. This class is appropriate for anyone who has previously taken an introductory ASL class or has equivalent experience using ASL.

About the Instructor
Valerie Best has an undergraduate degree in Early Childhood/Deaf Education, Exceptional Children's Certification, and ASL Interpreters Certification. She holds a teaching licensure in K-12 Education for Hearing Impaired and Special Education: Cross-Categorical. Valerie began her career at the Central North Carolina School for the Deaf in Greensboro, NC. She also taught deaf and hard-of-hearing students in the state of New Jersey and assisted in the development of the early intervention programs in Pennsylvania and South Jersey. Valerie was the staff interpreter for the Food and Drug Administration, EEO, Office of the Commissioner in Rockville, Maryland, providing interpreting services for the deaf doctors during the AIDS epidemic. She has provided interpreting services for schools and colleges through the years. She has also had the opportunity to interpret for Michelle Obama, Maya Angelou, and others.
