Painting with Acrylics is a great start for beginners want to learn the basic principles of painting and the properties of acrylics. The class will cover building a painting, from a primed canvas to a sketch to layering until the piece is complete. Color theory, line, and use of brushstrokes will all be discussed. Each painting will be unique to each artist.

Recommended materials

  • Artist-level acrylic paints such as black, white, yellow, blue, green, red, and brown
  • Brushes: a variety of sizes, both flat and round
  • Palette that can be closed up
  • Stretch canvas: 11 x 14” or 16 x 20”

This class is designed to teach the basics in acrylic painting. You will learn how to sketch, mix colors, blend and paint. Although there are many types of brushes, you will learn the specific brush type needed for the project you will be working on. You will also learn how to clean and maintain your brushes so they can last longer. Each class will begin with a brief demonstration of how to put all of this together to create your masterpiece! This is a 4-week class held on Tuesday and Thursday nights (twice a week for 4 weeks) from 6-8 pm. BRING A PHOTO THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A PAINTING OF.

About the Community Enrichment Program

The Community Enrichment Program (CEP) at Craven Community College provides a diverse array of non-credit, short-term, and affordable courses. Classes are open to anyone who wants to keep learning while having fun! Topics offered are based on community input and range in skill levels from beginner to advanced. Classes can take place in one session or span several weeks. Please note: CEP classes cannot be used for credit toward any of our degree programs.

Students may receive a full refund if a CEP class is canceled by Craven CC prior to the start date, or the student withdraws from the class before the start date. Complete details about CEP refunds are available in the Workforce Development section of the academic catalog.
