NC Nurse Aide I training is designed to provide skills that are essential to provide direct patient care under the direction of a licensed nurse. Nurse aide jobs are in high demand and upon completion, job opportunities at various medical facilities such as hospitals, skilled nursing homes, assisted living facilities, home health agencies, and private offices or agencies are available. This program includes class/lab/clinical, and the required state testing will be available on the New Bern campus.

  • 100 index cards
     
  • Scrubs: wear daily starting on first day of class. White solid top – may wear white long-sleeve shirts under scrub top; black scrub pants; solid white or black lab jacket only.
     
  • Shoes: professional shoe or tennis shoe with limited colors, clean. Required first day of class.
     
  • Analog watch (watch with hands). Required first day of class. No smart watches.
     
  • Blood pressure cuff and stethoscope of student’s choice. Required first day of class.
     
  • Textbook information: Nursing Assisting: A Foundation in Caregiving, 6th edition, ISBN: 978-1-60425-154-8, Hartman Publishing. Bookstore: 252-638-7259
  • Current picture identification card: Driver’s license or official state ID card. Required first day of class.
     
  • Non-laminated social security card. Required first day of class.
     
  • NC state exam fee: To test 2 weeks after the program completion, students will be charged $140 by the Credentia testing company.
  • Background check via Castle Branch required (approximately $50). Background check results will be submitted to the college electronically from Castle Branch. Background check must be completed no later than one week before start date. Background Check Instructions
     
  • Student Health Form: Bring copies of all required documents to the instructor.
    • PPD/Tuberculosis test
    • Hepatitis B series: Titer or 2 shots initiated before start of class
    • Flu shot optional
       
  • High school diploma or GED required. Bring copy to instructor.

*Registration with NCDHHS for the state exam requires two forms of identification, one of which must be a US government-issued social security card that is signed and unlaminated.
