Emergency Medical Services

Our Emergency Medical Services (EMS) programs provide certification in CPR, first aid, medical responder, emergency medical technician (EMT) basic, EMT intermediate, and paramedic. Courses are available to rescue squads, ambulance services, fire departments, and law enforcement agencies. CPR and EMT recertification classes are also offered. Fee-based classes in this program are available to interested citizens, business, industries, and church groups. Classes are held on campus, online, and throughout the county.

Students who complete our Paramedic certificate program may be eligible to transfer credits into Carteret Community College’s Associate in Applied Science in Emergency Medical Science Bridge degree program. Contact EMS Program Coordinator Jon Stephens for more information at 252-672-4698 or stephensj@cravencc.edu.

Please note: There are both seated and online course offerings. Be sure to check the location before registering.

Goal Statement

To prepare Paramedics who are competent in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains to enter the profession.

Credit Transfer Disclaimer

The Workforce Development and Continuing Education based EMS programs at Craven Community College do not currently offer advanced placement or experiential learning credit options. These programs include EMT Basic and Paramedic Initial. Students in these programs are currently not allowed to transfer clinical hours or skills from other programs and must complete the required minimum clinical hours, field hours, and skills assessments to complete the program and be eligible for North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services (NCOEMS) and National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) testing.
