We hold diversity as one of Craven Community College’s six Core Values. It reads, “We recognize the dignity, worth and potential of all persons and proudly celebrate the rich diversity of our local and global community.” This core value guides our college community in our attitudes, behaviors, and decisions.
The heart of the College’s mission is Teaching and Learning. Towards that end, access and inclusion are essential to our institutional desire to serve all of Craven County residents as individuals, each having unique backgrounds, abilities, desires, and needs. We are committed to providing a safe learning environment, where students can strive academically with support and without discrimination.
Our leadership, faculty, and staff serve as role models for openness and understanding of diverse backgrounds and divergent points of view. Our college team demonstrates these ideals across the campuses and in the classrooms, setting the stage for a robust environment of intellectual stimulation and learning.
Our Diversity Committee guides us in our journey through an ever-changing cultural landscape. The committee’s faculty and staff and the resources we commit to their efforts demonstrate our strong commitment to our students and to one another.
The committee is currently implementing a Diversity Action Plan to achieve several strategic goals; promoting diversity awareness; infusing multiculturalism, global awareness and pluralism into the curriculum; developing student activities and learning opportunities that foster inclusion; and implementing recruitment and retention strategies that reflect our diverse community.
I want to personally thank the members of our Diversity Committee for their continuing work to advance Craven Community College’s excellence in demonstrating our core values!
Sincerely,
Dr. Ray Staats
President
