Craven Community College's Early Childhood Educators (ECE) Club, in partnership with the Local Interagency Coordinating Council and Craven Early Learning Network, will host "Planting the Pinwheels," a community event dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of safe, stable, and nurturing environments for children. This event will be held Thursday, April 3 at 11:30 a.m. outside by the secondary entrance of the New Bern campus.

In collaboration with Prevent Child Abuse America’s Pinwheels for Prevention® campaign, this event symbolizes the impact we each have on shaping positive childhood experiences. With the support of the ECE Club members, this initiative will not only raise awareness but also engage future educators and community members in meaningful discussions about child wellbeing. Small acts, strong communities, and supportive policies all contribute to a world where children can reach their full potential.

About the Pinwheels for Prevention® Campaign

In 2008, Prevent Child Abuse America introduced the Pinwheels for Prevention® campaign. What our research showed, and what our experiences since then have reinforced, is that people respond positively to pinwheels, which represent childlike whimsy and lightheartedness and our vision for a world where all children grow up happy, healthy, and prepared to succeed in supportive families and communities.

Whether you are business or corporation enacting policies that impact the work-life balance of your employees or a neighbor who offers a respite from the demands of parenting, we all have an effect on the lives of children. Children who are raised with safe, stable, and nurturing relationships and environments are more academically and financially successful and grow up to be productive, contributing members of their communities. Pinwheels are a reminder that we all play a role in children’s lives.
