Occupational Summary
The Dean of Workforce Development provides leadership and management of the internal operations of Workforce Development. The Dean identifies current and future educational and training needs of businesses and industries in the college’s service area, and provides appropriate training needs to current and prospective employees. This position is responsible for developing apprenticeships/internships for business/industry and for organizing, implementing, and administering Workforce Development programs. Primary responsibilities include the development, delivery and administration of the College’s Workforce development offerings and the supervision of program area directors, coordinators and administrative employees. The Dean of Workforce Development creates and strengthens partnerships within and outside of the College and is responsible for implementing a strategic vision for the department.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Provides excellent customer service and assistance to internal and external customers through walk-in, telephone and email
- Develops and implements a vision for the Workforce Development Department team
- Directly leads the selection, orientation, training, mentoring, support, and supervision of employees assigned to the department
- Leads workforce programs in a positive, motivational and inspirational manner that promotes a collaborative work culture, strong work ethic, and a caring and supportive environment
- Responsible for leadership, development, coordination and supervision of course offerings assigned to the area and ensures compliance with accreditation and College requirements
- Oversees the assessment and continuous improvement of curricula, materials, and delivery, ensuring that state-of-the art methods and materials are used, and that academic standards are upheld
- Leads new program development, program growth efforts, and student recruitment strategies
- Leads efforts to develop and/or strengthen the relationship(s) between the college and external stakeholders, including industry/business, government, and military entities, public and private secondary and postsecondary schools, and other interested entities
- Actively purses grant opportunities and other funding sources that support the departments goals and objectives
- Provides leadership and monitoring of WFD enrollment including evaluating course enrollment trends, providing input to WFD enrollment management efforts and collaborating with other departments to ensure accurate reporting
- Promotes collaboration with Student Services to create seamless connection across services to result in increased resources and support for students
- Works with public school Career and Technical Director and coordinators to provide attractive programs for dual enrollment and Career and College Promise
- Develops, delivers, and administers self-supporting courses as assigned
- Provides oversight for data input of student registration, grading and reporting procedures
- Coordinates the development and accomplishment of department goals
- Represents the Workforce Development department by participating in and communicating effectively with relevant community and professional organizations and agencies and student recruitment opportunities
- Analyzes service trends and evaluates opportunities for training and retraining while promoting community awareness of program opportunities
- Makes required class visits as outlined in the policy for Accountability and Credibility for Workforce Development
- Develops and oversees the budget and management of day-to-day department operations
- Coordinates the updating of content of website, catalog, and other media pertaining to area
- Participates in appropriate committees and task forces as assigned
- Performs other job-related duties and projects as assigned in support of the College’s mission, values and goals
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
Five (5) years’ administrative experience in continuing education or workforce development.
Valid NC Drivers' License.
Preferred:
NC community college experience.
