Randy King’s brain comprehends more than many people ever hope to. An expert in mathematics with a natural ability to teach others effectively, Randy has used his intellect to benefit the population and propel the New Bern community forward for more than a decade.

Randy worked as a math instructor at Craven Community College from 2006 until 2011. He taught 11 different classes, most of them higher level math courses. He enjoyed being back in the classroom after a 27-year teaching hiatus.

“After five and a half years I retired from that, and I’ve been trying to get more involved in the community since then,” said Randy.

The following year, he volunteered at the college’s Academic Skills Center and served as a math tutor for students in need of a little extra practice. He occasionally filled in as substitute teacher and provided tutelage until 2015. “I actually did it until there were not many students coming in to be tutored,” he said.
