The path toward becoming a college student is not clearly defined for everyone. Students have different goals and experiences that determine the classes they need, the financial support that may be available to them and countless other resources that can guide them toward success.
To help students develop a better understanding of the opportunities in this area, Craven Community College (Craven CC) will host Spring Open House Tuesday, March 27 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Student Center on the New Bern campus.
“Our goal is to always help people realize their fullest potential,” said Gery Boucher, Craven CC vice president for students. “Sometimes we are the first step for someone transferring to a university and other times we provide technical skills that prepare people to move right into the workforce with a great paying job. We hold this event to let our community know that options are available to them and those options often begin with us.”
With over 100 learning opportunities available at Craven CC, visitors can discover which one best meets their educational goals. Some of the programs represented during Spring Open House include Liberal Arts and University Transfer (LAUT), Career Programs, Health Programs, Workforce Development and Campus Life.
LAUT will feature Craven CC’s transfer programs, including associate programs in the arts, visual arts, music, science and engineering. Faculty experts will be on hand to talk with anyone who is interested and answer any questions.
Four health programs will be featured during Spring Open House. Medical Assisting will have props to demonstrate venipuncture (blood draws), along with some EKG and vital assessment tools. The Physical Therapy Assistant program will feature hands-on exhibits such as balance boards and core-strengthening tools. Nursing will have the simulation lab mannequin and other items out, and the Health Information Technology program will have computer programs up and running for observation, along with some baked goods.
Career Programs offices will be open for any questions regarding their programs, which include accounting, automotive, basic law enforcement, criminal justice, cosmetology, manufacturing technology, esthetics technology, information technology and manufacturing technology and others. Representatives from Workforce Development will also be available to answer questions about programs that range from truck driving and construction to welding, plumbing and aviation.
Academic, admissions and financial aid advisors will be on-site to answer all questions about the application and admissions process for the summer and fall semesters. They will be available to assist future students with applying to Craven CC, filling out the free application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and finding scholarships.
