One area police department is partnering with a community college to create virtual training for officers.
The New Bern Police Department is partnering with Craven Community College staff on the training, which Captain Marquie Morrison-Brown says will simulate different situations. She says the simulations will help officers train on de-escalating certain situations.
“That system will allow each officer or each participant to step into the actual simulator,” Morrison-Brown explained, “and through various training with a trainer, and also scenarios, and work out different outcomes based upon their reactions.”
