The State of North Carolina requires medical residential facilities to have recreational activities for residents. In this course, you’ll learn how to lead these programs through lecture and hands-on activities. Class completion plus 25 volunteer hours at an assisted living or nursing home will be required to complete this program.

  1. Background check via Castle Branch required due no later than one week prior to start date. Background check results are submitted to the college electronically from Castle Branch. View background check instructions.
  2. If employed in a long-term care or assisted living facility, request from your employer a copy of the background check or on company letterhead confirming the background check was completed. Send via email or provide a sealed letter to the instructor at the first class session
  3. Student Health Form – Complete pages 4-8. Bring copies of all required documents to the instructor.
    • Current Tuberculosis (TB/PPD) test will be required. Provide documentation to the instructor at first class session.
    • Hepatitis B Series: First 2 shots initiated and documented or titer
    • Flu shot
  4. Covid vaccination: Requirements vary at the clinical locations. Shots with documentation or exemptions may be considered. More information will be discussed at the first class session.
  5. High school diploma or GED required.
