1. Apply to Craven Community College through the Workforce Development department (located in Brock Administration on the New Bern campus and Redd Building on the Havelock campus).
2. Take the TABE test through the Testing Center (located in Godwin Memorial Library, Barker Hall).
3. Submit any unofficial transcripts and resume to receive additional points for experience and/or education.

Surgical technologists are responsible for the preparation of instrumentation, supplies, and equipment during a surgery. They continuously monitor and maintain the sterile field while anticipating the surgeon’s needs. A surgical technologist is part of the sterile team, which requires them to don sterile attire, be on their feet for extended periods of time, and follow aseptic technique.

A central sterile processing technician is responsible for decontaminating, cleaning, packaging, and sterilizing instrumentation. They are responsible for ensuring each surgery will have the necessary instruments and instrument trays. Central sterile processing technicians are not part of the sterile team but are an important part of the surgery.

The Craven Community College Surgical Technology program will consist of two 18-week courses and will take approximately nine months to complete, depending on holidays and college schedule.

The Surgical Technology program at Craven Community College is not a curriculum program. Classes are offered as specialized training within the Workforce Development program. Graduates will receive a certificate upon completion and are eligible to take the Tech in Surgery (TS-C) by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).
