Are you working toward your high school diploma and interested in exploring hands-on trades? Craven Community College has developed the Trades Career Exploration (TCE) program just for you! This program is designed to help individuals discover three career paths in the trades:

  • Hospitality
  • Manufacturing
  • Construction

The TCE program is open to high school juniors and seniors in occupation prep courses. It will run four hours a week for eight weeks at our Volt Center campus.

This course provides a comprehensive study of perioperative care and preparation, patient care concepts, and professional practice concepts within the field of surgical technology. Topics include medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, microbiology, pharmacology, anesthesia, environmental safety, communication and reporting, instrumentation, physical environment, equipment, surgical procedures, patient safety, sterile technique, and surgical team support.

This brief orientation session will introduce you to our Surgical Technology program and answer any questions you may have about the program. It will cover surgical technology as a career, certification requirements, and available training options. This class delves into the artistry and precision of cake design. Participants will master the foundational skills needed to create stunning cakes that are as beautiful as they are delicious. Throughout the class, you will learn the foundations of piping techniques, mastering different piping tips and creating elegant borders, intricate lacework, and elaborate floral designs.

Have you ever wanted to try your hand at creating beautiful art using watercolor paints but didn't know how or where to start? Learn basic watercolor techniques such as wet-on-wet, color bleeding, wet-on-dry, graded wash, how to splatter, outlining with micro pens, and more. By the end of class, you will create your own personal collection of four different greeting cards!

This class is open to everyone, whether you think you can draw or not! We all have the potential to make extraordinary works of art. You will be provided an outline of a dog, cat, person, etc., and learn how to use pencils to make it come to life, using different layering and blending techniques. Have you ever wanted to make a gyro but didn’t know how? In this class, you will learn to make homemade flatbread filled with lamb and tzatziki sauce.

This class will teach you to pair the modern classic stuffed spinach bread with the taste and texture of a zesty Italian sausage white bean soup.

Baked fish is an easy, light, and healthy food. Learn how to prepare this meal while elevating flavor with spinach and traditional Mediterranean ingredients such as ciabatta olives, white wine, olive oil, garlic, and angel hair pasta. Delizioso!
