Deep Roots and Strong Futures: Honoring the Legacy of African Americans Who Shaped History

Join us as we continue to celebrate the College's 60-year history during Black History Month!

"Deep Roots and Strong Futures: Honoring the Legacy of African Americans who Shaped History" will include a Black History Month celebration in Ward Hall, located on the main campus.

Program includes the following:

  • Welcome: Ms. Rosa Ingram
  • 3CGC Gospel Choir: led by Ms. Bonita Simmons
  • Plenary Speaker: Ms. Jasmine Canady
  • Keynote Speaker: Dr. Dawn Baldwin Gibson

Information tables will be provided by the following:

  • Twin Rivers Opportunity: Joy Radcliff, Family Self-Sufficiency Coordinator (affordable housing/human services career)
  • First Flight Federal Credit Union: Jay Tripp, Associate VP of Business Development (financial management careers)
  • Craven CC Community Enrichment Program (CEP): Dr. Suzanne Madison, CEP Coordinator (Cotton Joe Doll, a railroad book titled "The Great Migration,” 1800s bible from the roads that were built through black neighborhoods)
  • The U.S. Colored Troops: Bernard George – he will come dressed in the uniform and speak about the group's history
  • Bennett College: Maxine Ford, Admissions Counselor
  • North Carolina Agriculture and Technical College: Alexis R. Holley, Transfer Admissions Counselor
  • Elizabeth City State University: Sherry Franks, M.Ed, Transfer Admissions Counselor

Lunch will be provided by Chef Alex from the Volt Kitchen.
