This course provides a comprehensive study of surgical procedures and specialties that coincide with clinical rotations. Emphasis is placed on related surgical anatomy, pathology, terminology, and procedures that enhance theoretical knowledge of patient care, instrumentation, supplies, and equipment. Upon completion, students should be able to correlate, integrate, and apply theoretical knowledge of the course topics to the clinical operative environment.

The TCE program is open to high school juniors and seniors in occupation prep courses. It will run four hours a week for eight weeks at our Volt Center campus.
This course provides a comprehensive study of perioperative care and preparation, patient care concepts, and professional practice concepts within the field of surgical technology. Topics include medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, microbiology, pharmacology, anesthesia, environmental safety, communication and reporting, instrumentation, physical environment, equipment, surgical procedures, patient safety, sterile technique, and surgical team support.
